Sale St Bar and Brewery goes London

Situated at the heart of Auckland’s new entertainment hub, the Victoria Quadrant, Sale St Bar and Brewery is a world class entertainment venue with a distinctly Kiwi flavour. The building was originally built in 1921 as a drapery warehouse that became the capital of the Glengarry Hancocks’ liquor empire in the 90s. It features a micro-brewery, open kitchen and coffee roaster, as well as live music stages.

Wavefront Audio Auckland has just completed the installation of a BSS Soundweb London BLU16 8x8 processor as part of an audio system. As the venue is an ex-warehouse and licensed for 800 patrons, its size presented a number of design considerations that needed to be allowed for, including the use of screens to partition off areas of the venue to suit current events or promotions, such as separating the dining areas and live bar.

The main music source is from a Cloud Digital music server (CDMS) The CDMS system is an audio video jukebox that allows users to select over 4500 songs as part of a nominated music style, as well as play promotional information and videos at scheduled times. Additional inputs are provided with a live music stage, Main DJ input, VIP DJ input and Satellite TV sources. Outputs are zoned to 2 bars, a dining area, Atrium area, live music stage, outside courtyard, VIP lounge and the toilets.

A range of speaker sizes were used throughout the venue with each zone having independent volume and source selection. Using Soundweb London allowed different EQ’s to be programmed into the system depending on the volume levels of the audio system. Due to the different acoustics in the venue when empty and full, an Equaliser circuit was programmed via the logic section of the Soundweb to boost the low frequency when the volume was turned down.

The Bar Staff operate the audio system via the CDMS touch-screen. The system operates off a customised touch-screen positioned behind the bar. The Cloud software has been configured to open an audio custom control panel for the venue created using HiQnet London Architect. Once any audio adjustments are completed, the bar staff use a ‘return to Cloud’ button on the screen to return to the playlist selection. This allows the venue staff to select the music playlists and adjust the volumes from the same control system. The VIP lounge uses a BSS 9012 analogue wall controller for volume and source selection.
