Northcote Primary School

25 September 2009

Northcote Primary School was established in 1918. In the late 1970’s the original building was replaced by a custom designed flexible teaching space block. At the same time, the remainder of the school was extensively re-modelled internally.

Their classroom learning programmes are well resourced with modern technology and an inquiry learning approach, within language-rich environments.

Keeping up with technology, Pitney Bowes recently installed new multi-media systems in several of their classrooms. The goal was to provide a system that was not only discreet but easy to use. The audio system was for voice only reinforcement but needed to keep the intelligibility as high as possible by controlling the amount of reflection. To make things more difficult, the classrooms were box shaped and had many windows.  Pricing also was a factor due to the number of classrooms being upgraded.

To help control the reflection issues, column speakers were chosen because they have a narrow vertical coverage pattern which beams the sound direct to the children and not reflect off the back walls or windows.

Inter-M CS-920 column speakers were chosen and paired with an Inter-M PA935A amplifier to drive them. The amplifier is preset for PC or microphone so the system is set up very much plug and play.

In total 17 pairs of CS-920 speakers and 17 PA-935A amplifiers were installed in the required classrooms.
